Clearly we made it out of SLC alive and without multiple wives. The whole Twilight Zone atmosphere of the place is over. I know Ray and I sound dramatic when talking about it, but at one point while downtown (looking for the non-existent Chick-fil-A), we passed a group of five guys all dressed the same with the same hair. I think all we were lacking was for everyone to raise their arms slowly in a point at us and start that breathy squeel. Eek!
The one cool thing about Utah though, is that is where the phrase, "Purple mountain majesties..." comes from (America, The Beautiful). That was really great to actually see finally. At sunset, the mountains really turn purple! It's strange and truly a beautiful sight.
So, the drive has continued on into Montana and I could swear for a long part of the trip someone just looped the background video for our driving scene. Everything has just began looking the same. I mean, we've been through mountains, desert, prairie land, past lakes, crossed rivers, and seen some urban sprawl, but it's amazing how after driving through a specific type of scenery for hours, it just looks like anything and everything else. Although, this did leave us with plenty of time to discuss why most farms in the Idaho/Montana area seem to have black cows as opposed to, say, a Jersey brown. We're firmly planted on the meat tastes better... or they just thrive better in the environment.
Overall though, I'm pretty ready to get to DC. Not that the road trip is necessarily bad, it's just been long... and I'm kind of over being in a different hotel every night. I want my bed back. And my things. Belongings would be nice. Ooo, and food that I've made myself!
Here are some pictures from along the road from SLC to Butte:
Oh, and this is what I woke up to this morning. It's still snowing. There's probably an inch on the ground now. I really hope the mountains aren't bad yet! Wish us luck, it's going to be a long, slow trip today. At least to start.
