Ray Rests

Ray and I both lost the fight against the sickness we've been battling
for the last several days.
He came home early and napped and is back in bed. I napped off and on
for a good part of the day. Ugh!

Lunch and tv

I've had two days inside as maintenance fixed our sink and dishwasher.
Luckily, it's 25 degrees cooler today than it was yesterday! So much
better. And it's raining today. It's a good inside day.

Lunch

Eating lunch is good. Eating johnny rockets is better.

Haircut

Headed to pentagon city mall in search of some kitchen items. Didn't
get a chance to see a local person for a haircut, so decided on rebis.
She did alright. For thirty bucks, I think I can find better. I am
confident that once we get more familiar with the city we can find
someone way cool.

We did find a more reasonably priced grocery store (Harris-teeter)
that is outside the mall.

Yay for Sundays. Start new job tomorrow.

Potomac

Crossing the river on the yellow line on the way to the mall.
It's a nice day... except for getting up to 90 later! It's already
hot. Ugh!

It was just easier to buy a cart to carry our groceries.

Finally Cooking at Home

We got some groceries yesterday. Hooray for not eating out!!!!
Here's Ray making brekky. Egg scramble with shallots, garlic,
mushrooms and jalepenos and toast.
Last night was rosemary, garlic chicken with garlic roasted potatoes
and salad.

Lunch

More unpacking today. We are getting very close to being unpacked.
Last night we gave up and ordered pizza and watched "the return of oz".

We are taking another break. We took the green line up to Columbia
heights and found "five guys". They look yummy. We are going for a
target run. Food was a hard choice because potbelly was next door.

T minus one night...

So howdy folks! It's the last night before DC (squee!). I did a video. It explains what I would write... but it's babbly. Deal with it. ;)
Also, the video is taking a long time to upload... This was published WAY after I did it.

Ciao belle!

Everyday Should Be Like Sunday

Yesterday David, Vic, and I went to Homestead for breakfast. Apparently where you eat for breakfast is like where you are in the "class" structure. Trashy people eat at The Waffle House, blue collar worker types eat at Homestead, and the other classes eat at places like Bob Evans. Homestead was alright. Typical diner fare with reasonable prices and an interesting buffet. David and I had the buffet where we treated ourselves to scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles, potatoes, biscuits and gravy and that sort-of thing. I also tried mush. Yeah....mush...barf...

Later that day David and I drove down to Columbus to shop/walk around Easton. Easton is a very large complex/mall with indoor and outdoor malls. I remembered Easton as being a very cool place with really interesting and unique shops. Columbus is really connected to the fashion world as many of the fashion houses have thier main corporation here. I really wanted to see the United Colors of Benetton shop becuase I really liked some dress pants I bought there last time. Outside of that, it was alright. We ate at a place called bd's mongolian barbeque where you build your own stir-fry. It's somewhat similar to other mongolian grills but, you can have fresh sauces, fresh protein, raw eggs, and basically better products.

After our time at Easton's we drove over to a newer mall called Polaris Fashion Mall. We actually had to stop at Costco for some paper towels and toilet paper for the new place (Costco was across the street). We walked around the mall some and I bought some new cologne (John Varvatos Artisan) and dave bought a new Mark Ecko shirt.

Earlier in our drive to Ohio (and on our way obviously to D.C.) we were discussing the movie Return To Oz. During a later part of our drive we listened to Scissor Sister's first album that has a song called Return to Oz that is actually about the movie version. I did some looking and it turns out that the Wizard of Oz is a very dark series of about 12 books. The movie failed becuase people expected the MGM Wizard of Oz style and this movie wasn't like that. This movie was true to the novels (although you could argue it has it's own failures as a movie). Anyway, point is, I became very interested and found the Return To Oz movie at Barnes and Noble.

After spending time at the mall we decided to head over to a place called Magic Mountain. This is your typical pizza, go karts, putt putt, and video game place. Last night was packed probably becuase the weather was really nice. We bought a round of putt putt and had a good time. There were plenty of good looking people so it made waiting for our turn less boring...hahaha!

After our putt putt round we decided to head home.

Today, we met Vic and Sherry for dinner (supper is later) at a steakhouse type place that I cannot remember the name of. Most of us had steak and chicken dinners, David had to have seafood (which is really weird becuase he doesn't usually order the seafood). Anyway, that was good.

After our dinner we headed over to Walmart to walk around. That was fun. We didn't buy anything, but it was fun to walk around and see local people do local people stuff. Not like standing behind a barrier and watching animals in a zoo, but you know, local people stuff.

After Walmart David and I stopped at Tim Hortons for a mocha. We actually thought they were going to be really lame mochas but, they turned out to be really creamy. Very good stuff. I mean, it's no Starbucks.....but it was really good.

We came back to the house and we all sat outside where Vic, David, and I had cigars and goofed around.

Thats about it. Tomorrow we head to D.C., our final destination. I ordered Internet service today from Verizon. Looks like we can keep our DirecTV as the apartments support satellite service (we just need to figure out how that works).

Okay, I am going to see what everyone is up to. They probably think I am ignoring them. haha

bye!

Dinner

Tonight was a good night for relaxing. Made it to Chicago pretty early considering the traffic, accidents, and toll booths. We actually stayed at a hotel across the street from where Chris works (and he was able to see us in the window - guess we shouldn't walk around naked). After work, Chris came up to the hotel room and we...headed downtown.

I wanted to hit Macy's because they were having a suit sale. I scored two Michael Kors' suits (navy and grey pinstripe) for a killer deal (plus 20% off). We then met Sean (Chris' BF) who kindly waited in line at Gino's for pizza.

We ate at Gino's last year and found that experience much better. We had a server who was a bit to butch so Chris nick-named her "balls". We told her that we came up with a name and she asked that we change it to "kahunas". I am sure I blew the spelling, but regardless, she was game for our infantile dinner table games.

After dinner, Chris and Sean had other plans so they bailed on us. They did drive us to the blue line so we could head back to the hotel. We were pretty tired. The L ride was a pretty long one. There is some construction work going on so they went down to a single line track. We eventually did make it to our room and we are just going to relax.

We have an offer to stay at Sean's for another night, but we are not sure if we are going to stay. We probably won't. We really just want to get to Ohio so we can relax for a bit with Vic and Sherry. Plus, there is a Donato's there and Chicago doesn't have one so that might trump everything.

Ok. Going to relax for a bit. Here is a short video we made while taking the blue line downtown to Macy's.

Austin City Limits

Well, after hours of driving we have finally made it here to Austin, Minnesota.

The days started out with the two of us driving out to Mt. Rushmore only to be disappointed. Watch the video for why:

So, we left Mt. Rushmore and headed East to Austin. Along the way we did the usual coffee and gasoline fill-ups. We did come across some signs that were for this place:

We stopped here for lunch. We had burgers, fries, and onion rings. We decided against the donut and free water (for which they are known for - the water part anyway). They have just about everything and nothing at the same time.

Anyway, we did tons of driving. It was interesting to see when we hit Minnesota the number of wind farms. There were quite a few and not just in little pockets. At one point, there were probably over a hundred turbines in one section.

After leaving our hotel just around 7:45, we parked the car just after 9:30 p.m. to get checked in and go next door to Perkins for dinner.

Been a long day.

Austin, Minnesota

I have never had a cup of soup feel like butter. Eating some late
night grub before heading back to the hotel. Tomorrow is Chicago.

Rest areas are fun

Still about 100+ miles to go before we get to the hotel. Tired boys.
