1949 Portland

Checking out the Smithsonian (Museum of American History) and look
what we find. The whole exhibit was on Sandy Blvd.

  1. At the Smithsonian Museum of American History, they have a whole section about cars and travel and such. There's a section about Chicago's L, DC's old streetcar system, and a whole area of old Portland. Sandy used to be considered the "suburban strip". Most car dealerships and places moved out to Sandy to take advantage of those who had cars. In the background of the picture is one of the first Fred Meyer stores. It was located in the Hollywood district. It was just interesting to see all of that at the Smithsonian.
