However, today Ray was off work (YAY!) so we decided to take the day and have some fun. Tomorrow things will be closed and I'm pretty sure it will be nuts everywhere. We may not leave the apartment. We should be able to see the fireworks from the dining room. We won't have to deal with crowds... it's rational, we're not shut-ins. Shut up.
Anyhow, today we made the trek up to:
(see how beautifully that worked?!)
Georgetown is in NW DC and is where a lot of money resides. It also has no Metro stop, so you either catch a bus or walk the mile(ish) walk from the Foggy Bottom stop. It's actually a nice walk. We made this journey for one reason and one reason only... CUPCAKES! Baked and Wired cupcakes to be specific. I was initially planning on dragging us up there for another cupcake place, but was swayed by the many reviews saying these were much better... and much bigger (hey, when you're paying $3+ for a cupcake, size matters). I'm glad we chose this place. Delicious. AMAZINGLY delicious. So, the place is have baked goods, half coffee shop. Cupcakes were yummy and the coffee was fantastic as well.
Ray was getting ready to dig in. I'll spare you the actual picture of him digging in; it's not pretty. ;)
After killing off a red velvet cupcake each (and grabbing a couple cupcakes to go--they were saved for after dinner) we headed out to actually explore the area.
Now, at this point I should mention that when we left the apartment it was beginning to sprinkle. We were debating putting our Georgetown foray on hold and just going to the mall to stay dry. After much deliberation we decided that if it was raining when we got off the train, we would just hop back on and continue on our way to the mall. We've come to a point where we just go to the mall. We're bored, we're hungry, we're tired but want out of the apartment for awhile. For any reason what so ever, we go to the mall. We had to talk ourselves out of it. Luckily, it turned out to be a gorgeous day!
Also lucky for us is the fact that Georgetown is like the mall. Only more spread out. I think every store we generally browse at the mall is only in Georgetown. Minus Macys. And who cares? We have two Macys in DC that we go to often in which multiple employees know us. It's sad. Very sad. We're regulars.
So, we browsed the shopping, purchased a few things, actually entered a Dean and Deluca for the first time for either of us, walked and walked and walked, and saw the Old Stone House. Well, we think we saw the Old Stone House. There's a whole little park-like setting and people. We were both annoyed by this turn of events. There's no rationale for it. We were just annoyed by the idea.
After coming back to our senses, we found a little frozen yogurt place called Iceberry. Now, there is much debate in the frozen yogurt world over what is better, frozen yogurt that has a more yogurty tang or frozen yogurt that is more sweet, like icecream. This place was a more yogurty one. It was very good and really refreshing.
Strawberry frozen yogurt with blackberries and mango. Ray got the stawberry with strawberries and blueberries. You can get some Fruity Pebbles and some other fruits as well. Decided against all that.
After all that, we hit Trader Joes and headed home. In short, Georgetown is a really cool area of town. It's also a very busy area of town. Great to visit, couldn't live there though.
As just a note, if this is long, rambly, and nonsensical, 1.) it's me, get used to it, and 2.) it's late and I've been walking around all day. ;)
I heart this post...
ReplyDeleteI heart "foggy bottom"...
I heart the pics of you two!!!
I wonder if they will ever extend the metro to Georgetown (seems like a lot of college age people could benefit from that)?
We're adorable. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo, apparently they are in the planning (and soon to start???) stages for a line that runs through all the NW neighborhoods. There are no metro stops in a lot of them, or it's the red line that barely even gets to them.
It would be a very good thing to build, IMHO.
